Katherine-Ryan-Racist-Joke-about-Filipinos-on-BBC-ShowKatherine Ryan, a Canadian comedienne, writer and actress, based in the United Kingdom, became popular in social networking sites after using “Filipino children” as part of her joke in British celebrity panel game show “Mock the Week” hosted by Dara Ó Briain.

Though the segment was intended to mock and deliver unlikely lines from a cosmetics commercial, many Filipinos find the joke offensive and racist.

On the video uploaded on YouTube last June 13, Ryan said, “We don’t use any of our products on animals. We use Filipino children.”

Ryan issued a statement via her Twitter page, explaining: “It was UNLIKELY lines from a cosmetics commercial. *UN-LIKELY*. You’d be very unlikely to hear that. Because it would never happen.”

“If you’d watched the whole show instead of reacting to a still shot out of context, you might feel that I was criticizing the EXPLOITATION of children. The joke is never, ever ON children. Watch the show.”

“I’m genuinely sorry to upset you but the joke wasn’t ON Filipino children or any children.”
