The mysterious flesh-eating disease in Pangasinan that is linked to a prophecy is hoax, according to regional health officials.

People began to panic after ABS-CBN late night news program Bandila aired a report on Monday, February 24, that a mysterious flesh-eating illness is slowly spreading in Pangasinan.

The special coverage shows two cases from the town of Villasis and Santa Barbara whose skins were reported to be decaying.

Bandila has yet to air the second segment Tuesday night that will tackle prophecy by an Indian prophet named Sadhu who visited the Philippines last year. Sadhu made a prediction that a flesh-eating disease is going to hit Pangasinan, will spread in Cebu, and all over the world.

However, Pangasinan provincial health officer Dr. Anna De Guzman dispelled the news report of the mysterious Flesh-Eating Disease.

In a phone interview of Inquirer.net, Dr. De Guzman said: “There is no truth to a rumor that a flesh-eating disease is spreading in the province.”

“De Guzman clarified that the first patient from Santa Barbara was a leper who suffered from an adverse reaction from a drug. While, the second patient from Villasis is ailed with psoriasis.”

According to Dr. De Guzman the two reported patients are now admitted at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital to undergo further treatment and medical diagnosis.

She further added that both cases are controllable and there is no truth to the rumor that a so-called “flesh-eating” illness is fast spreading in the province.
