Jamie Herrell from Cebu City was crowned winner of Miss Philippines Earth 2014. Herrell will represent the Philippines to this year’s Miss Earth pageant.
The 19-year-old Cebuana beauty bested 48 other contestants during the Grand Coronation Night of Miss Philippines Earth 2014 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Sunday, May 11, 2014.
During the Q&A portion, Former Akbayan Representative Risa Hontiveros asked her, “Have humans been good to Mother Earth?”
“We haven’t been good children. In fact, I believe that we are the number one cause of our her problems,” she replied, receiving thunderous applause from the audience.
She added, “We are the reason why we’re having climate change. We are the reason why we’re having floods. But in return, if we can only help her, she can help us back and take care of us, too.”
Jamie Herrell also won several special awards like Best in Swimsuit, Best in Cultural Attire and Miss Solaire.
Other winners are Miss Philippines Earth Air 2014 Dianne Querrer of Tanauan City; Miss Philippines Earth Water 2014 Kimberly Covert of Dumaguete City; Miss Philippines Earth Fire 2014 Bianca Paz from Gapan City; and Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2014 Monique Manuel from Dinalupihan Bataan.
